For local businessman Craig Bennett, Amelia Island is a place where memories are made. He has a lifetime of precious memories from the times he has spent here. A native of South Georgia, he has been a regular visitor to the island since he was a teenager. He bought his first home here because he wanted his children to experience the island for themselves. He moved here permanently when it became obvious this was the perfect community in which to raise a family.

For all the amenities and recreational activities available on the island, what Craig enjoys doing most on his rare day off is spending quality time with his wife, Mary, and children, Cody and Megan. Craig knows his children are growing up fast. His oldest is a teenager and his little girl is not so little any more. He wants to cherish the time they spend together and make the most of every moment. To Craig, creating lasting memories with his family is what life is all about. For him, it embodies the essence of life on Amelia Island.

The Memory Maker
Whether riding bikes along the beach, strolling down Centre Street or exploring the nature preserves of the Intracoastal Waterway, Craig has shared many memorable moments on the island with his family. It was his desire to create many more treasured memories that was the motivation behind getting a yacht. Anchored off the coast or docked in the harbor, the 44-foot cruiser, affectionately nicknamed “The Memory Maker,” is a home away from home for the Bennetts. When he is relaxing on the deck of his boat with his loved ones, watching as the sun disappears into the horizon, Craig is reminded how blessed he is in life. It is moments such as these when he says to himself:
