Danby is a town located in the Tompkins county metro area that was settled around 1797. The community was named after the Earl of Danby, an English Prime Minister who received a portion of land in the New World that would become Danby. One of the towns noted residents included Wilson Greatbatch, born in 1919, who was renowned for advancing the implantable heart pacemakers. Buttermilk Falls State Park and Danby State Forest are in the vicinity.
