My Relocation to Grand Rapids -1989
In 1987 my wife and I were sitting in a room at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel looking across the river at the Gerald Ford Museum. At the time we lived on the east side of the state. We both said, "This would be a great place to live and raise our family". We began the preparation and in about two years we moved to Grand Rapids where we have found our prediction to be true!
We knew that our kids would have many opportunities in the Grand Rapids area that our old home town couldn’t offer. We had heard that the school districts were outstanding, we were excited about regularly attending the Grand Rapids Symphony , Grand Rapids Ballet , Opera Grand Rapids , Broadway Theatre Guild , the museums and so much more. With my background in restaurants, we were excited to have so many wonderful dining choices .
We came here expecting to love Grand Rapids. Our experience here has greatly exceeded our expectations. As we have gotten to know the people and the town, and as West Michigan has grown over the years, it’s an even better place to live. Large enough to offer all we love about a larger city, but not so big that we spend much of our lives in traffic jams.
It really doesn’t matter what you and your family enjoy, there’s a very good chance you will be able to enjoy it in West Michigan. We have professional baseball, basketball, hockey, arena football. Golf is HUGE in West Michigan with many wonderful award winning courses that have opened in the last few years. There are hiking and biking trails, lots of indoor ice for your aspiring hockey player or figure skater. Plenty of inland lakes and streams for boating and fishing. If you like big water, Lake Michigan is just a short drive. The Arts Calendar is so full that on almost any day there are too many events to take in.
Let me show you what I love about Grand Rapids
Over the years, many employers have asked me to meet with candidates considering a job in our area. I’ve prepared special relocation information packages and given the Grand Rapids 101 tour many times. I would be happy to build a package for you, and give you the GRAND TOUR. I’m convinced that once you see what Grand Rapids has to offer, you will want to call it home too!
